I am writing this in the year 2023. Its spectacular that 2050 is as close to us as 1996. I am writing this on a device 10000x more powerful than the computers which sent men to moon, while I am flying 10s of thousands of feet in the sky going to a vacation we booked the same day just using those mobile apps.
Its jitteringly insane the things which we are capable to do now. But, what is more cooler is that the things I described which ‘sound’ futuristic are also decades old. In 2022, we have unleashed new kinds of beasts. Google’s Transformers have been ‘transformed’ by OpenAI. Dall-E/ChatGPT is launched. It seems a new-age computer revolution the likes of Internet & smartphones is upon us.
The capabilities of our computers is rising insanely. For the first time, computers are able to imagine & think on their own. Many compare it to humans, and say it is as smart as humans, that it has passed the Turing Test. But, those of us, the ones on the front-lines know its different. Computers are not smarter/dumber they are different than us. Kind of like an alien intelligence which lives amongst us.
The future as I write today, will be extremely unprecedented, but the much I can imagine it is this:-
- Very short term:– Creative Tools will be transformed. Not only would it be easier to make videos,games, content but more imaginative. Because the computers will be ‘imagining’ with you! Kind of like building David with Da Vinci!
- Short-term:- Consumer apps are gonna be transformed. 2010s saw snapchat, insta, tiktok, youtube rule the world. The basic innovation which they did was of recommendation. The sea of content of the web was deeper than ever before. Game was not of making the best content, but rather recommending the most suitable one (as yt learnt by itself), and this what they ALL aced at. But, 2020s will be different. future is gonna be generative. Everyone are gonna curate their own content, thier own memes, reels, videos almost instantaneously and mindlessly. Future creation will be compared to today’s creation as we compare tiktok & reading books. Btw this is where FamJam fits in. We have a built a Creative Platform for GenZ to make their own AI powered digital characters. These characters will hold human-like convos with you, gossip with u and ur friends and might also become ur next best friend. The Game is on.
- Long-term:- So what’s really happening. At its core, what is. You see every computing revolution democratised the access to something. internet democratised access to info and outreach (google, amazon). smartphones democratised the access to a supercomputer with which u can control the world around u (uber,airbnb etc). So what’s this AI AI thingie. AI in its most fundamental form democratises access to intelligence. Earlier only a minority could write and express really well. But, now powered with GPT3 any1 could. Its getting better really fast, coding thru Codex,Ghostwriter and ChatGPT is more fun & 10x easier. I literally was able to build FamJam only cuz my learning loops were so fast in ChatGPT. You really need to think real deep to understand why this is THE most impactful thing. See, if you have to take 1 variable which controls human-progress it will be the rate of our growth in scientific knowledge and the application of it in tech. And AI can help in generating new knowledge rapidly. And that will change the world so fast.
This rate of progress, the aspect that we can build better things and control the world around us more, deeply sikes me out. As I write this on 2023, I wonder where else the explosion of knowledge & tech will happen.
The most obvious answers staring right at the face come in:- Nuclear Fusion! Starships!
Though I have not worked much in these fields but I have deep respect for the folks bursting it out. Helion Energy is building a nuclear fusion reactor which can generate sun-like energy from ocean water (no closing electric bulbs ever babe!). With infinite energy, we would be living life in cheat-codes HESOYAM folks!
Artemis by NASA, Starships by SpaceX, Supersonic Planes by Boom, self-driving cars by comma.ai. And this is just the start. Engineers are ready, and up to change the world.
